If a scratched Compact Disc, a single sided disc generally used for Audio and CD-roms,  has damage to the data layer itself, there is nothing that can be done to retrieve this data. The data layer is very close to the label side of the disc and so is vulnerable to scratches from the top.

The good news is that discs with minor damage to this data layer often play perfectly after restoration. Naturally, the worse the damage, the less likely it is that the disc can be restored. 'CD Fixer' will give you a free assessment of whether it is economical to  repair the scratches in any CD.

DVD's, video game discs and recordable discs can all be repaired to near perfect finish. This is due to the fact they are constructed in a different manner to Compact Discs.

Learn more about the construction of discs here.

Any discs that are  warped, cracked or broken can not be repaired and will be returned free of charge and a credit for non repairable discs will be issued.

Using tried and tested, State-of-the Art patented technology we gently polish away a very small layer from the bottom surface, micron by micron, just sufficient to remove any scratches.

We then restore it to a mirror finish. This allows the light from the laser to pass cleanly through the disc to the data layer and back to the laser again.

Naturally this depends how deeply scratched the disc is each time, but we conservatively estimate a minimum of ten times, far in excess of what most discs will experience during their lifetime.

Some DVDs are double sided and have to be repaired on both sides for which an extra will may be incurred.

A disc with  substantial damage still requiring repair after passing through one heavy repair process, will automatically be passed through one more further heavy repair cycle from start to finish, at no extra cost.

Should any defects still be evident, further repairs will be necessary and therefore incur extra costs. At this point we will contact the customer for approval of the continuation of the repair.

Warped or broken discs cannot be repaired. Data that is lost due to damage to the foil data layer cannot be replaced. Minor damage to the data layer often does not necessarily prevent a disc playing back or operating perfectly after repair.

Major Scratches or dents can occasionally cause the data layer to compress and become corrupted, though the scratches can be removed, the effects of the scratches or dents may have rendered the data corrupt. The data that has been damaged can not be repaired, but often operate satisfactorily after repair.

Yes, completely! All the machines and processes we use are tried, tested and patented.

Put simply, the reason most discs won't play is because the bottom (non-label) surface is scratched. This bounces around the light from the laser that reads the data within the disc. This makes it hard for the player to know where to go next, which is why it either jumps, stalls or gets stuck playing the same section.
